FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Clarion Edges Mounties 82-77 in PSAC Crossover Game – Terrance Williams and Kevin Hill Each Score 20 for Mansfield University

MANSFIELD – Terrance Williams and Kevin Hill each scored 20 points but Clarion was able to hold off a late torrid rally in edging Mansfield 82-77 in a PSAC crossover contest in Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

“We played hard and I was pleased with the effort,” said head coach Rich Miller. “But turnovers just killed us especially during one five minute stretch in the second half.”

Mansfield set the pace early taking 19-13 lead on a 3-pointer by freshman Jovoun Webb seven minute into the game before Clarion rallied in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 43-39 advantage into halftime.

Clarion used a 23-10 run, fueled by Mansfield turnovers, midway through the second half to build a 72-54 lead on a 3-pointer by Leon Kennedy.

But Mansfield refused to fold, steadily chipping away at the lead behind Hill, who scored seven of his 20 points over the final eight minutes, to pull to 79-75 with 45 seconds remaining.

In addition to his 20 points Williams also pulled down a team high eight rebounds with John Hampton adding 13 points.

Clarion (2-1), which shot 57% from the floor in the second half, was led by Leon Kennedy with a game high 27 points.

Mansfield (1-2) will host IUP Sunday at 3 p.m. in Decker Gymnasium.
