FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Play Tough in First Half in Exhibition Game at Bucknell

LEWISBURG – The Mansfield University men’s basketball team, playing an exhibition game against their second NCAA Division I program in four days, started out strong before dropping an 86-43 decision to Bucknell Saturday evening in Sojka Pavilion.

The Mountaineers scored the games first points on a three-pointer by Terrance Williams and maintained a lead for the first four minutes of the game. Mansfield trailed by 16-14 after a three-pointer from Kevin Hill with 11:09 remaining in the first half and was down 24-14 with just over seven minutes to go.

But points and especially rebounds would be hard to come by the Mountaineers with Bucknell going on a 19-7 run to take a 43-22 lead into intermission.

Mansfield turned the ball over just seven times in the first half while forcing 10 Bucknell turnovers but were out rebounded 31-6 including 17-2 on the offensive glass.

The Mountaineers would continue to struggle to scoring in the second half, losing Brandon Smith, John Hampton, Kevin Hill and Dhimitri Luarasi to fouls before the end of the game.

 Mansfield was also with out the services of Jevon Webb who scored a game high 19 points against Binghamton University on Tuesday.

Terrance Williams and Chris Greene each had seven points for Mansfield with Brandon Lawley, John Hampton and Kevin Hill adding six apiece.

Bucknell, which was 26-42 from the free throw to Mansfield’s 5-7, was led by Rob Thomas with a game high 15 points.
