FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer Men Fall 86-75 at Millersville
MILLERSVILLE – The Mountaineer men struggled to overcome a 14 point first half deficit, eventually suffering an 86-75 defeat in PSAC East action on Saturday afternoon at Millersville.
Mansfield opened the game strong with an 11-3 run in the first four minutes of play but Millersville would slam the door on the Mountaineers, exploding with a 24-0 run to take a 27-11 lead with eight minutes left in the half. The deficit proved to be insurmountable as it grew to as much as 18 points.
The Mountaineers would claw back into the game slowly in the second half coming to within seven points when Jovoun Webb knocked down back to back lay-ups with just under 10 minutes to play to bring the score to 67-60. Millersville responded again however, this time with a 7-0 run, to put the game out of reach.
Mansfield scored 44 points in the second half after being held to 31 in the first half.
John Hampton led the Mountaineers for the second game in a row with a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Kevin Hill recorded 16 points and six rebounds while Terrance Williams knocked down 13 points and pulled in nine rebounds. Jovoun Webb added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Greg Testa led Millersville with a game-high 23 points while Reggie Bates added 22 and Charlie Parker added 12.
Mansfield shot 35.1% from the field while the Marauders shot 48.4% from the field. The Mountaineers held the slight rebounding advantage at 48-44.
With the loss, Mansfield falls to 7-14 on the season and drops below .500 in the PSAC East with a 3-4 mark. Millersville improves to a PSAC leading 19-3 overall and 5-2 in Eastern conference play.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Wednesday, February 7, when they travel to Kutztown for a PSAC East match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
