RELEASE DATE: 2/11/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Andrae Martin Records Second Straight Double-Double as Mounties Beat West Chester 75-65 on Senior Day Mansfield – Seniors Andrae Martin, David Hoopes and Brandon DeShields celebrated Senior Day by combining for 52 points to lead Mansfield to a key 75-65 win over West Chester in a PSAC East contest Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium. “We communicated well today, especially on defense,” said head coach Rich Miller. “That was something we were lacking at Millersville. We played well and we may not score 95 points a game down the stretch, but if we play as well defensively as we did today we’re going to be alright. Andrae Martin continued his impressive play recording his second consecutive double-double with a game high 21 points and 10 rebounds, his second straight double-double. The senior forward also had two assists, two steals and a block while connecting on 7-of-10 from the floor and all six free throws. “Andrae has been huge for us of late,” said Miller. “He just outworks people on the floor. If you watch tape of games, Andrae doesn’t usually rip down the rebounds. He outworks everyone else off the tip and positions himself to get the ball.” The Mountaineers trailed just twice in the first half and used an 8-0 run over the finally 1:37 of the half to build a 39-28 halftime lead. Martin had 10 of his points in the first half. Mansfield retained a comfortable lead for most of the second half with pulling no closer than 46-40 at the 15:12 mark. Ahead 63-56 with 6:15 to go, the Mountaineers sealed the win with an 11-1 run over the next three keyed by David Hoopes fourth 3-pointer of the game. Hoopes ended the afternoon with 19 points and three assists while fellow senior Brandon DeShields had 12 points along with four rebounds and four assists. John Hampton came off the bench. Aaron Williams lead West Chester (14-10, 6-3) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Mark Gerhart added 14 points with Azim Jones 13. Mansfield shot 49.1% from the floor and held a 42-31 rebounding margin. The win moves the Mountaineers into a tie for third place in the PSAC East with Kutztown at 5-3. East Stroudsburg leads the East at 7-1 with West Chester in second at 6-3 The Mountaineers host Bloomsburg on Wednesday in Decker Gymnasium.
