FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: COLLAZO AND DeSHIELDS COMBINE FOR 42 POINTS IN 92-62 WIN OVER ITHACA – MOUNTIES IMPROVE TO 3-0 ON SEASON

MANSFIELD – Seniors Carlos Collazo and Brandon DeShields combined for 42 points to lead Mansfield to a 92-62 win over Ithaca College Thursday night at Decker Gymnasium.

“Better,” said head coach Rich Miller. “We played better than we have in the first two games and had the opportunity to play and look at a lot of our guys. Our five seniors played well and we expect that from them, but I also saw a lot of good things from our freshman class.”

Collazo scored 15 of his 23 points in the first half from his down low post spot hitting 7-of-11 of his shots as the Mountaineers shot 57.6% from the floor in taking a 45-32 advantage at halftime.

Ithaca would close the gap to 54-46 in the first five minutes of the second half, but a 22-7 Mansfield run starting with just over 10 minutes to play gave the Mountaineers a 88-58 lead on a lay-up by Aja Rutledge with 2:31 to go.

DeShields scored  19 points hitting 7-of-11 shots in a season low 21 minutes. He also pulled down seven rebounds with four assists. Collazo just missed a double-double with nine rebounds along with his season high 23 points with three blocks.

Junior Terrance Williams added 12 points while freshman Chris Greene scored nine. Former Mansfield High School standout Kevin Hill had seven points along with David Hoopes. Andrae Martin dished out a career high five assists with six rebounds with 11 of the 12 players on the roster scored.

Jim Bellis had a game high 25 points for Ithaca (0-3) hitting five 3-point attempts with Dominic Scanlon adding 10 points.

Mansfield improves to 3-0 and will take the first road trip of the season this weekend with crossover games at Edinboro and Slippery Rock this Saturday and Sunday.
