FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: David Hoopes Named PSAC East Player of the Week After Back-to-Back Mountaineer Victories

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University standout David Hoopes (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carrol) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in the week ending 01/22/06.

Hoopes led the Mountaineers to back-to-back wins over Millersville and West Chester to earn a piece of first place in the PSAC East.

The senior shooting guard averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game with five assists and three steals. He connected on an amazing 60.9% of his shots from the floor (14-23) and 60.0% from behind the three-point arc (12-20).

His three-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining lifted the Mountaineers to an 82-80 victory over Millersville as he scored a team-high 21 points.

He followed that up with a 22 point performance at West Chester while he shot 6-of-8 from the three-point arc as the Mounties defeated the Golden Rams for the first time since the 1997 season.

Hoopes ranks 19th in the PSAC in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game and ranks second in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage shooting 46.4% from the arc (51-of-110).

Mansfield is 7-8 overall and shares a lead with Kutztown and East Stroudsburg in the PSAC East with a 2-0 conference record. The Mounties are back in action Wednesday night January 25th when they travel to Bloomsburg University for a 7:30 contest.
