RELEASE DATE: 11/04/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DAVID HOOPES LEADS THREE PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES BEFORE 4,663 IN EXHIBITION GAME AT DIVISION I BINGHAMTON BINGHAMTON, NY – David Hoopes led three Mountaineers in double figures with 14 points as Mansfield opened the Rich Miller era with a 94-71 loss to NCAA Division I Binghamton University in front of 4,663 fans at the new Events Center Friday evening. Playing before more people than perhaps any team in school history, the Mountaineers didn’t hit their first shot until Brandon DeShields jumper just over four minutes into the game. Not surprisingly for an early season exhibition game, the Mountaineers turned the ball over 15 times in first half and shot 35% from the floor in trailing 48-27 at intermission. Terrance Williams scored 11 points for the Mountaineers hitting three-of-four 3-pointers. Forward Andrae Martin had 10 points along with four rebounds. Carlos Collazo scored nine points in just 12 minutes of play with DeShields and John Hampton scoring seven points. Justin Kress had six points along with a game high eight rebounds. Freshman Chris Greene looked the best of the newcomers scoring three points with two assists and a steal in 11 minutes. Mike Gordon had a game high 18 points for Binghamton with Andre Heard adding 16. Official Basketball Box ScoreOfficial Basketball Box Score
