RELEASE DATE: 3/8/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DeShields Earns All-PSAC East First Team Honors – Hoopes Named to Second Team Mansfield – Brandon DeShields (York/York) was named to First Team Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division honors while teammate David Hoopes (Philadelphia/Archbishop Carroll) was selected to the Second Team in voting conducted among the PSAC East head coaches and released today. DeShields was one of the best all-around players in the conference this season ranking 16th in the PSAC in scoring (15.1 ppg), third in assists (125 – 4.46 apg) and sixth in free throw percentage (78.0%). In addition he ranked second on the team in 3-point field goals (55), third in rebounds (146 – 5.2 rpg) and fourth in steals (28). DeShields scored in double figures in 22 of 28 games this season surpassing the 20 points mark in a game eight times including a season high 27 points in a win over Kutztown.
Hoopes was one of the most dangerous long distance shooters in the PSAC this season with a conference best 87 3-point field goals. He ranked 25th in the PSAC in scoring (13.1 ppg) and was the second most accurate 3-pointer shooter (42.2%) in the conference. Hoopes also was second on the team in free throw percentage (76.6%) with 62 rebounds, 34 assists and 30 steals. His 87 3-pointers this season are the third most in a season in school history and he scored in double figures 20 times on the season including a team best 28 points against Bloomsburg. The Mountaineer (14-14, 7-5) finished second in the PSAC East and advanced to the PSAC Final Four.
