FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES DOWN WATERLOO IN EXHIBITION – BENSON AND BRYANT COMBINE FOR 43 POINTS

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University men’s basketball fans got a preview of the upcoming season and new scoring tandem as the B & B Boys of Jason Benson and Brian Bryant combined for 43 points in a 82-69 victory over the University of Waterloo in an exhibition game Saturday evening in Decker Gymnasium.

After a sloppy first half that saw both teams combine for 30 turnovers and Mansfield trail 41-35, the Mountaineers displayed a high energy offense behind Bryant early in the second half and Benson over the last 10 mintues, to outscore Waterloo 47-28 in the second half.

Five minutes into the second half, David Hoopes hit a three-pointer to put the Mountaineers up 45-43 and they never looked back scoring 21 of his game high 23 points in the second half. The Bloomsburg transfer posted a double-double by pulling down a game high 10 rebounds.

Bryant finished the game with 20 points and six steals while Andrae Martin added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Dave Munkley topped Waterloo with 18 points.

The Mountaineers will open the 2004-05 season this Tuesday when they travel to Houghton College.
