FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SUFFER FIRST LOSS IN 87-76 SET BACK TO UPJ – DAVID HOOPES AND BRIAN BRYANT NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

JOHNSTOWN – The Mansfield University men’s basketball team got off to an ice cold start in a 87-76 setback to the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown at the UPJ Classic late Saturday night.

The Mountaineer managed to shoot just 33.3% from the floor in the first half while UPJ hit 51.5% in jumping out to a 40-26 advantage at intermission.

Mansfield shot marginally better in the second half and managed to trip the margin, but could never recover from the first half.

David Hoopes continued his outstanding early season play leading four Mountaineers in double figures with 19 points including 5-for-10 on 3-point attempts.

Brandon DeShields come off the bench to score 15 while Andrae Martin had 13 points with six rebounds. Justin Kress scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Dwight Hines led UPJ with a game high 20 points.

It marked the first loss of the season for the Mountaineer (2-1) while UPJ improves to 4-0.

Hoopes and Brian Bryant were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mansfield will host #19 ranked Bowie State on Nov. 28.
