FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES BEAT EAST STROUDSBURG 97-87 TO MOVE INTO TIE FOR FIRST IN PSAC EAST  CARLOS COLLAZO SCORES 21

MANSFIELD- Carlos Collazo topped four Mountaineers in double figures with 20 points to lead Mansfield to a 97-87 win over East Stroudsburg and move into a tie for first place in the PSAC East Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

The game between first place East Stroudsburg and second place Mansfield lived up to expectations with eight lead changes and ties in the first half before the Mountaineers top a 46-45 edge into intermission.

The game remained close through much of the second half with Mansfield leading 66-63 at the 9:41 mark before going on a 14-2 run to take a 80-65 lead on a 3-pointer by Brandon DeShields with 6:55 remaining. 

The game was then marred by an on court altercation with five East Stroudsburg and three Mansfield players ejected from the game.

East Stroudsburg managed to cut the score to 88-83 with 2:13 to play, but David Hoops drained a 3-pointer and Jason Benson hit four free throws to ice the game.

Collazo scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half with Brandon DeShields scoring 18 points with six assists. David Hoopes and Jason Benson each added 15 points.

Anthony Ross had a game high 22 points to lead East Stroudsburg with Danny Hargrove scoring 14 points.

Mansfield moved into a tie with East Stroudsburg with the win. Both teams are 4-1 in PSAC East play.

The Mountaineers will travel to Cheyney on Saturday to round out the first half of the PSAC East schedule.
