RELEASE DATE: 2/28/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BRANDON DeSHIELDS NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK MANSFIELD - Brandon DeShields (York/York) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week ending 2/27/05. The 6-1 guard led the Mountaineers to two wins during the week to clinch their first PSAC East Championship since 1997. DeShields averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals in Mansfield’s wins over East Stroudsburg and Cheyney. He was 13-15 from the free throw line. DeShields scored a game-high 27 points against Cheyney in the regular season finale. He had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists when Mansfield clinched the PSAC East in a win over East Stroudsburg. For the season, DeShields is averaging 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Against PSAC East competition, he is averaging 17.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. It marks the second time that DeShields has received this honor and fifth time a Mountaineer has been PSAC East Player of the Week this season. The Mountaineers are 17-10 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC East. Mansfield will host Kutztown University in the PSAC East quarterfinals at Decker Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
