FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BRANDON DeSHIELDS NAMED PSAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK – AVERAGES 27.5 POINTS PER GAME DURING 2-0 WEEK FOR MOUNTAINEERS

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University junior point guard Brandon DeShields (York/York) has been named the PSAC East Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week ending 1/30/05.

 In his first two starts of the season, DeShields led the Mountaineers to key PSAC victories over Bloomsburg and Kutztown averaging 27.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists during the week. He connected on 20-34 (58.8%) from the floor, including 8-13 (61.5%) on 3-point attempts. He also dished out 12 assists with five steals and blocked two shots while posting double-doubles in each game.

DeShields scored a career and game high 32 points in the win over Bloomsburg with 10 rebounds and five assists. He followed up that performance with a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds with seven assists at Kutztown on Saturday.

In 11 games this season, DeShields is averaging 10.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.4 rebounds per game.

The Mountaineers are currently 10-9 overall and in second place in the PSAC East with a 3-1 mark. They will host current PSAC East frontrunner East Stroudsburg (10-8, 4-0) in a first place showdown at Decker Gymnasium Wednesday evening starting at 7:30 p.m.
