FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Has Record Number of PSAC Scholar Athletes in 2005-06 Season

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released the 2006 Scholar Athletes this afternoon. Mansfield had a record high 59 student-athletes named as PSAC Scholar Athletes for the 2006 season.

To be eligible for the scholar-athlete awards, student-athletes must attain at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average while competing in an intercollegiate varsity sport. The 1,579 scholar-athletes earning the honor this year account for approximately one quarter of the 5,300 + student-athletes in the PSAC. PSAC Commissioner Murray will award each scholar-athlete with a certificate of distinction.

“It never ceases to amaze me the dedication our institutions and their athletics programs have toward producing quality student-athletes," said Murray .  “While I am happy to see our schools perform on a high level athletically, I am most pleased with another year of outstanding production from an academic standpoint.”

Mansfield’s honorees are highlighted by three outstanding student-athletes, Chris Cummings, Charity Walker, and Ryan Wyland. These three athletes were named to the prestigious Spring Top Ten, a select group of student-athletes that exemplify outstanding athletic performances, as well as academic performances.

Cummings was also named to the Winter Top Ten, while Walker was named to the Fall Top Ten.
