NAMED MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY WINTER ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
MANSFIELD – Brett Longpre’ (Welland,ONT/Governor Simcoe) and Lynelle Mosley (Media/Penncrest) have been selected as the Mansfield University Male and Female Winter Athletes of the Year. The awards were presented at the Winter Sports Banquet held recently.
Longpre’, a junior guard on the basketball team, helped the
Mountaineers to their second most successful season in the past 17 years with
an 18-11 overall record while capturing the ECAC Division II South Basketball
Championship.
For the third straight year, Longpre’ led the team in
scoring averaging a career high 18.3 points per game while leading the
Mountaineers in rebounding for the third straight season pulling down an
average of 6.1 board per outing.
The 2001-2002 Winter Athlete of the Year, Longpre’ was named
the PSAC East Player of the Week three times during the course of the season.
He became one of the few players in school history to earn All-Conference
honors in each of his first three seasons when he was repeated as a First Team
All-PSAC East selection.
One of the most dangerous players in the conference,
Longpre’ ranked sixth in the PSAC in scoring, third in free throw percentage
and 3-point field goals per game, seventh in 3-point field goal percentage and
14th in rebounding.
In the ECAC Championship game, Longpre’ scored a team high
25 points to led the Mountaineers to the ECAC title and earn MVP honors.
Although just a junior, Longpre’ already ranks among the
Mountaineer elite with 1,300 points and 218 3-pointers.
The son of Gillian Gregory and ken Longpre’ of Welland, Brett is majoring in business management at Mansfield.
Lynelle Mosley capped off one of the most
successful careers in Mansfield University women’s basketball history by
posting one of the most extraordinary single seasons in the annals of
Mountaineer basketball.
The Mountaineers leading scorer, averaging13.8 points per
game this season, Mosley ranked 11th in the PSAC in scoring in
helping her team record the second most wins in school history.
As impressive as she was as a scoring threat, Mosley truly
excelled as a playmaker and defensive player. Her 112 assists and 62 steals
each ranked fifth in the PSAC this season and she also ranked fifth in the
conference in 3-point field goal percentage, seventh in free throw percentage
and 14th in 3-point field goals made per game.
One of the most feared players in the conference this season,
Mosley earned PSAC East Player of the Week honors before being selected as just
the fourth Mountaineer player to earn First Team All-PSAC East honors.
A four-year starter, Mosley has started more than 100 games
during her career and ranks among the career leaders in almost every
statistical category.
One of the players responsible for changing the success and
expectations of Mountaineer basketball, Mosley is the all-time leader in career
steals with 293.
In addition, her 316 assists are the third most in school
history and she ranks sixth in scoring with 1110 points. Mosley’s 316 assists ranks third best
all-time, while her 102 3-pointers is fifth best.
A leader off the court as well, Mosley has been named for
Academic All-American honors with a 3.35 cumulative grade point average and is
a three-time PSAC and MU Presidential Scholar-Athlete recipient.
The daughter of Katherine Benson and Kenneth Mosley of
Media, Lynelle will graduate with a degree in psychology.
