FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES
BREAK INTO AFCA DIVISION II TOP 25 POLL FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1987 – MU
RANKED 23RD IN COUNTRY
MANSFIELD
– The undefeated
Mansfield
University
football team broke into the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA)
Division II Top Twenty Five Poll. The Mountaineers are ranked 23rd in
this week’s poll.
It marks the first time since 1987 Mansfield
has appeared in the AFCA poll. The Mountaineers were ranked 20th in
the nation (the poll only included a top twenty at that time) after jumping out
to a 4-1 start.
Mansfield
improved its record to 6-0 on the season after defeating Kutztown 45-24 last
Saturday. The victory guaranteed Mansfield its first winning season since posting a 5-4 mark in 1975. The 6-0 start is the
best since the 1938 team went 7-0 and won the state championship.
The Mountaineers will travel to East Stroudsburg
this Saturday for a key PSAC East match up. East Stroudsburg
was in the national rankings earlier this season
and received votes in this week’s poll.
