FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES BREAK INTO AFCA DIVISION II TOP 25 POLL FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1987 – MU RANKED 23^RD IN COUNTRY

MANSFIELD – The undefeated Mansfield University football team broke into the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Top Twenty Five Poll. The Mountaineers are ranked 23^rd in this week’s poll.

It marks the first time since 1987 Mansfield has appeared in the AFCA poll. The Mountaineers were ranked 20^th in the nation (the poll only included a top twenty at that time) after jumping out to a 4-1 start.

Mansfield improved its record to 6-0 on the season after defeating Kutztown 45-24 last Saturday. The victory guaranteed Mansfield its first winning season since posting a 5-4 mark in 1975. The 6-0 start is the best since the 1938 team went 7-0 and won the state championship.

The Mountaineers will travel to East Stroudsburg this Saturday for a key PSAC East match up. East Stroudsburg was in the national rankings earlier this season and received votes in this week’s poll.
