‘POOHBEAR’ McNEAL NAMED TO PRE-SEASON DIVISION II ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
Mansfield- Mansfield University’s PSAC East Rookie of the Year and NCAA
Division II All-American Earnest ‘Poohbear’ McNeal (Orlando,Fla/Lake Highland Prep)
continues where he left off last season by being named to the Division II
Pre-Season All-American team in two national publications, Street &
Smith’s College Football and Lindy’s Football magazine.
Last
season, McNeal rushed for a school record 1,684 yards and 17 touchdowns in
Mansfield
’s best season since 1946
finishing with an 8-3 record.
With the addition of new head coach Jim Shiffer and 18 starters returning
including McNeal, Street & Smiths’s College Football has
Mansfield
as one of the team’s to beat
in Division II football.
In 2003, McNeal was named the ECAC Division II Rookie of the Year. Just a
freshman, McNeal led the nation in all-purpose yards (2,392) and was tops in the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in rushing yards (1,684).This mark was good enough to
set a new school record for rushing yards in a season, a feat he also
accomplished for rushing touchdowns (17) and touchdowns in a season (19).
He
was selected to All-American honors on four of the five postseason teams.
McNeal
was selected as the PSAC East Rookie of the Year and the Northeast Region Rookie
of the Year and was placed on the All-PSAC East First Team. He was also named to
Second Team AP Little All-American Honors as well as Daktronics NCAA Division II
All-American and D2football.com honors.
The
Mountaineers open the 2004 season August 28 on the road against the University
of

of Pa.
