FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
DAN HOLLAND NAMED PSAC NATIONAL
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AND D2FOOTBALL.COM
TRI-NATIONAL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MANSFIELD –
Mansfield
University
senior linebacker Dan Holland
(Scranton/Bishop O’Hara) has been named the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
National
Defensive Player of the Week and the D2football.com
national Tri-Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding
performance in the Mountaineers 45-24 victory over Kutztown University last Saturday.
Holland,
last year’s NCAA Division II Linebacker of
the Year and preseason All-American, recorded a season high 19 tackles in the
game, including 13 solo. He also blocked, recovered and returned a punt and had
a sack in the win.
Holland, who currently
leads the PSAC in tackles (69) and solo tackles (40), set a new school career
record for solo tackles (274) and moved to within four tackles of breaking Dave
Mitchell’s (1992-95) school record of 437 total career tackles.
It marked the sixth
straight week Mansfield
has had either the PSAC East Defensive or
Offensive Player of the Week and the second time in his career
Holland has been named National Player of the Week.
Mansfield
improved to 6-0 with the win over Kutztown – the only remaining undefeated
team in the PSAC this season. The Mountaineers also clinched their first winning
season since 1975.
