HOLLAND NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN DISTRICT II FOOTBALL TEAM – SENIOR
ADVANCES
TO NATIONAL BALLOT
MANSFIELD
– Everyone already knows about Dan Holland’s exploits on the football
field, now everyone knows about his exploits in the classroom.
Dan
Holland (Scranton/Bishop O’Hara) was selected to the 2002 CoSIDA Verizon
Academic All-American District II Football Team in voting conducted among
District II sports information directors.
District II consists of student-athletes from NCAA Division
II and Division III who have maintained a 3.25 or better cumulate grade point
average while being key members of their football teams.
A senior, Holland
carries a better than 3.40 cumulative grade point average in special education.
The District II region includes Delaware, the District of Columbia,
Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
and West Virginia. Student-athletes named to the district team qualify for the national ballot,
with the team announced on December 1.
The 2002 NCAA Division II Linebacker of the Year, Holland
was a consensus All-American last season when
he led the nation in tackles and assisted tackles. A three time All-PSAC East
first team selection,
Holland
currently leads the PSAC and ranks fourth in the nation in tackles (123) and
third in solo tackles (71).
Holland
is one of only two defense players among the 24 players nominated for the 2003
Harlon Hill Award. The Harlon Hill Award is annually presented to the best
football player in NCAA Division II. The list will be cut down by regional
voting to eight candidates on November 17. Voting will then be conducted among
the top eight candidates with the top three invited to the Harlon Hill Award
Ceremony held Dec. 6 – the evening before the NCAA Division II National
Championship game at Florence,
Alabama.
