FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD MOVING QUICKLY ON SEARCH FOR HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University is moving quickly and thoroughly in its search for a new head football coach.

The search committee met today and started the formal review of more than 60 applications that have been received as of Tuesday. The University expects more applicants this week after the conclusion of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Convention this afternoon.

The committee expects to move into the next stage of the selection process by the end of next week and plans on inviting candidates to campus for formal interviews on Jan. 26-27.

Former head coach Chris Woods resigned shortly before Christmas to accept a similar position at Stonehill College to be closer to his hometown of Milton, MA.

The Mountaineer assistant coaching staff has continued its recruiting efforts since Woods departure. February 1, is the first day a high school senior can officially commit to play football play collegiate football.

Mansfield posted an 8-3 record last season and returns 18 starters.
