FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OFFENSE SHOWS IMPROVEMENT IN FINAL SCRIMMAGE BEFORE SEASON OPENER AT CALIFORNIA NEXT SATURDAY

MANSFIELD -- After struggling a little in the first scrimmage, the offense turned in a much better performance Friday afternoon in the final scrimmage of preseason camp.

"We showed a lot more offensively today," said head coach Jim Shiffer. "We still have a way to go, but were are making steady progress for the opener next week."

All eyes were on the battle for the starting quarterback spot between sophomore David Fetzer and University of Delaware transfer Terry Kelly. Fetzer moved the offense in his time behind center including a touchdown pass to Joe Bennett. Kelly showed a strong arm and was able to complete a number of long passes.

The Mountaineers will finish camp with Picture Day on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Karl Van Norman Field.
