FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JOE BENNETT NAMED PSAC EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SETS SCHOOL RECORD WITH FOUR TOUCHDOWN CATCHES IN WIN OVER WESTMINSTER

MANSFIELD – Junior Joe Bennett ( Horseheads , NY /Notre Dame) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in Mansfield University’s 50-17 win over Westminster College last Saturday.

Bennett caught seven passes in the game for 210 yards and set a new school record with touchdown grabs of 64, 30, 24, and 15 yards.

His 24 points scored and 210 yards in receiving yards are the most in the PSAC this season.

For the season, Bennett tops the PSAC in receiving with 16 catches for 389 yards and a conference best six touchdowns.

Bennett moved to 5th place in career yards with 1541. He is 62 behind Jim

Cosgrove (85-88) for 4th place.

He needs 3 more TDs to tie for most receiving TD's in a season (9) by Steve Brion (89)

Joe is the son of Cynthia and William Glynn of Eldersburg , MD.

It marks the third straight week Mansfield has had a PSAC East Player of the Week. Mike Donati was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first week of the season followed by Earnest “Pooh Bear” McNeal as the Offensive Player of the Week last week.

Mansfield is currently 3-0 on the season, the best start for the Mountaineers since opening the season at 4-0 in 1994.

Mansfield travels to Lock Haven for a 7 p.m. game this Saturday.
