FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES PICKED FIFTH IN PSAC EAST FOOTBALL PRESEASON POLL – PRESEASON CAMP OPENS ON AUGUST 12

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University Mountaineer football team was picked to finish fifth in the 2003 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division in voting conducted among the PSAC East head coaches. The poll was released today during the 2003 PSAC East Football Media Day held at Bloomsburg University.

 “Its gratifying the other PSAC coaches recognize the improvements the program has made over the past two seasons,” said head coach Chris Woods. “But our objective is to finish first in the PSAC East.”

Mansfield was picked seventh in the poll in 2001 and sixth in the poll in 2002. The Mountaineers finished fifth in the PSAC East last season.

Mansfield had the second best passing attack in the PSAC last season and returns senior Travis Motley at quarterback for the fourth straight season. The Mountaineer defense, first in the PSAC East last season, returns eight players who started in 2002 including NCAA Division II Linebacker of the Year Dan Holland.

More than 100 players are expected to report to preseason camp on August 12. Mansfield opens the 2003 campaign by hosting Bowie State (MD) on Sept. 6.
