RELEASE DATE: 9/16/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Fall to Slippery Rock – Freshman Tucker Berry Runs for 85 yards SLIPPERY ROCK – The Mansfield University Mountaineers could generate little offense in suffering a 46-0 loss to Slippery Rock in a PSAC cross-over game at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium Saturday evening. The Mountaineers struggled to get untracked most of the night accounting for just 41 yards in total offense and not completing a pass in the first half to trail 25-0 at intermission. Mansfield had a number of chances to score including early in the game after recovering a fumble inside the Slippery Rock 20-yard line. The Mountaineers drove to the 6-yard yard before freshman quarterback Garrett Kensy was intercepted in the end zone. The Mountaineers had a field goal blocked early in the second half was were stopped on the Slippery Rock 1-yard line on downs in the third quarter before Slippery Rock scored on a 95-yard touchdown pass to increase its lead to 32-0. Senior quarterback Tyler Blakeslee took over from Kensy shortly before the end of the first half, completing his first pass of his career early in the third quarter. He completed 6-of-15 passes for 101 yards and was intercepted twice. Freshman running back Tucker Berry was one bright spot on the offense, rushing for 85-yards on 19-carries. Freshman Kelly Love had an interception in the endzone for the Mountaineers. Slippery Rock racked up 610 yards in total offense to Mansfield’s 208. Both teams turned the ball over five times. SRU quarterback Nate Crookshank completed 17-of-25 passes for a school record 336 yards and two touchdowns. It marked the first time since 1949 Mansfield has been shutout the first two games of the season. Mansfield falls to 0-2 on the season and will host Lock Haven this Saturday in the 2006 Homecoming game. Slippery Rock improves to 2-1.
