FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties fall to Kutztown 51-7 – Freshman Kevon Calhoun rushes for 106-yards and touchdown

KUTZTOWN – Mansfield freshman Kevon Calhoun rushed for 106-yards and a touchdown but Kutztown scored the first 51 points of the game in a 51-7 win in a PSAC East contest at University Field Saturday evening.

Kutztown out gained Mansfield 481 to 207 in total offensive yards with the Mountaineer accounting for 76-yards of their yards on their final possession of the game. Senior Tyler Blakeslee completed 4-of-6 passes during that drive for 43 yards with Calhoun accounting the 18 yards including a 7-yard touchdown run.

Kutztown scored on a safety in the first quarter when a Mansfield punt attempt when the snap went off the up man and out of the endzone and scored later in the game on a 62-yard punt return.

Freshman Justin Athans started at quarterback before giving way to Blakeslee in the fourth quarter. Athans completed 8-of-20 attempts for 34-yards but was intercepted twice.

Quarterback Kyle Spotts completed 16-of-25 attempts for 205-yards and three touchdowns for Kutztown with Maurice Adams rushing 21 times for 107-yards.

Mansfield was led defensively by Andre Turner with a game high 12 tackles including eight solo. Michael Gardier had eight stops with Brent Fairbrother picking off a pass.

Mansfield falls to 0-5 on the season and 0-2 in the PSAC East. Kutztown improves to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
