Mounties Fall to #7 Bloomsburg -- Freshman Kevon Calhoun Runs for Game High 79 Yard and a Touchdown

Mansfield – Freshman Kevon Calhoun continued to look impressive, but it wouldn't be enough a Mountaineer loss to #7 Bloomsburg.

Quarterback Dan Latorre passed for 153 yards including a 44-yard touchdown to Luke Kuklick as #7 Bloomsburg rolled to a 28-0 halftime lead on its way to a 31-7 win over Mansfield in a PSAC East contest at Karl Van Norman Field Saturday afternoon.

Kuklick scored just over four minutes into the game, capping off a three-play, 64-yard drive by Bloomsburg.

Stefan Adams increased the lead to 14-0 on a 15-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Bloomsburg added another second quarter touchdown on a 7-yard run by Christian Allen and took a 28-0 lead into half when Brahin Bilal caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Matt Freedman.

Mansfield got on the scoreboard on a 6-yard run by Kevon Calhoun capping off an 11-play drive with just over four minute to play.  Bloomsburg capped off the scoring with a 40-yard field goal by Jon Koenig.

The Mountaineers, who were held to 37-yards of total offense in the first half, ended the game with 139 total offensive yards including 122 yards on the ground.

Latorre, who played less than two quarters, completed 7-of-11 passes while Josh Heck ran for 77 of Bloomsburg’s 187 rushing yards.

Freshman Kevon Calhoun rushed for a game high 79 yards. Mansfield quarterback Tyler Blakeslee attempted just seven passes completing three of them for 17 yards.

Senior Andre Turner led the defense with a game high 11 tackles with freshman Greg Hopkins recording 10 tackles and an interception. Freshman Mike Gardier added eight tackles as did sophomore Tom Duer. Freshman Michael Taylor had seven stops.

Bloomsburg improves to 7-1 overall and remains undefeated in the PSAC East with a 3-0 mark. Mansfield falls to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC East.

Mansfield travels to IUP next Saturday.
