Mounties Fall 41-0 in Final Game of 2006 Season

MANSFIELD – On a muddy and emotional senior day, the Mansfield University Mountaineers dropped the final game of the 2006 season to the Marauders of Millersville by a score of 41-0.

Mansfield honored 17 seniors in a pre-game ceremony before they played their final game at Karl Van Norman Field.

Tyler Blakeslee, Troy Cobaugh, Patrick Devlin, Dan Eberly, Brent Fairbrother, Brandon Fields, Jamar Foulks, CJ Frederick, Paul Garofalo, Mike Guanciale, Mike Lengel, Adam Majchrowski, Jon Mattis, Donnie McDonough, CJ Okogeri, Brian Smith, and Andre' Turner were all honored in front of a crowd of over 3,000 fans that turned out in support of the seniors, and in support of the Mountaineer football program.

Millersville won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. The Mountaineers gambled for the second week in a row attempting an onside kick to start the game but the ball rolled out of bounds at the 44 yard line.  With only three plays, the Marauders went 56 yards for the opening touchdown just :55 seconds into the game.

The Mountaineer offense struggled to get things going on their first possession, giving the ball back to Millersville after a three and out. The Marauders would capitalize with another touchdown with 10:03 to play in the first quarter.

Mansfield started senior quarterback Tyler Blakeslee before switching to freshman Xavier Thomas. The two quarterbacks would alternate for the duration of the game. Both QB's were 4-for-8 passing with one interception. Blakeslee threw for 38 yards with Thomas adding 25 yards.

Rodney Davis carried the ball 17 times on the slippery Van Norman Field rushing for 23 yards on the day. Kevon Calhoun added 18 yards including a 17 yard rush while Blakeslee added 13 yards on the ground.

Troy Godinet led the Mountaineer defense with 12 stops in the day, including eight solo and one sack. Senior Andre' Turner had nine tackles with Michael Gardier and Greg Hopkins each wrapping up eight.

The Mountaineer offense totaled 118 yards on the day while Millersville totaled 309 total yards.

Millersville quarterback Dan Csencsitz started the game by completing his first seven passes with two touchdowns. He finished at 14-of-19 for 199 yards and four touchdowns. Andy McCormack caught four passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns while running back Brad Lantz rushed 21 times for 77 yards and one touchdown.

The Mountaineers finish the 2006 season at 0-10 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC East, their first winless season since the 0-11 1998 season and just the third time in Mountaineer history that the team has been held winless for the course of a season. Millersville finishes the season at 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC East.
