FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Andre Turner, Kevon Calhoun and Mike Gardier Named to All-PSAC East Football Honors – Turner One of Six Players in School History to Earn All-Conference Recognition Four Times during Career

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University’s Andre Turner (Pittsburgh/Peabody)  was named to All-PSAC East honors for a rare fourth time where he was joined by freshmen teammates Kevon Calhoun (Rockville,MD/Richard Montgomery) and Mike Gardier (Dunmore/Dunmore) in being named to the 2006 All-PSAC East Football team.

The team, selected by the PSAC East head football coaches, was released by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference office this afternoon. All three were named to Second Team honors.

Turner, a middle linebacker, joins Bob Vagonis, Robert Funderburke, Don Chubb, Dean Stewart and Dan Holland as the only Mountaineers to earn all-conference honors four times during their careers.

Turner ranked sixth in the PSAC in tackles this season with 83 including 40 solo and a team best 10.5 for a loss. He also intercepted a pass and returned returning it 85-yards for a touchdown in being named the PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week against Lock Haven.

In his four seasons at Mansfield, Turner has recorded  351 tackles including 182 solo and 27.5 for a loss. He ranks fourth in school history in career tackles and fifth in tackles for loss.

Calhoun was selected at running back where he led the team in rushing with 391 yards including a team best three touchdowns. He ran for season high 106 yards against Millersville.

Gardier had a terrific freshman season finishing fifth in the PSAC with 84 tackles. The defensive back also intercepted two passes on the year while recording 10 or more tackles in three games.
