FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD HIRES VINCENT WHITE AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR – FORMER HEAD COACH AT ST. MARY’S HAS SERVED AS ASSISTANT AT UTAH, ARIZONA STATE, PITTSBURGH, SMU AND MARYLAND

MANSFIELD – Vincent White, who served as an assistant coach at Utah, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, SMU and Maryland among other NCAA Division I programs, has been named the offensive coordinator of the Mansfield University football team. The announcement was made today by head coach Jim Shiffer.

White served as the head coach at St. Mary’s College in California in 2003 and 2004 before the school discontinued its football program.

He served on the staff at Utah as running backs coach in 2001 and 2002. Prior to that, White was running backs coach at Arizona State (2000) and the University of Pittsburgh (1997-99).

White was receivers coach at Southern Methodist University in 1995 and 1996 and served in the same capacity at the University of Maryland in 1994. He was a member of the staff at the University of the Pacific from 1990 where he was responsible for the receiving corps while serving as the offensive coordinator in 1992. White was also offensive coordinator at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1989 and offensive coordinator at Oregon Institute of Technology from 1986-88.

A 1984 graduate of Stanford University with a BA in sociology, White enjoyed a distinguished collegiate playing career with the Cardinals. A running back, White led the nation in receptions as a senior in 1982, catching 69 passes. He also led the team with 15 touchdowns and 1,275 all-purpose yards en route to first-team all-Pac-10 and honorable mention All-America honors. After completing his college career, he was a sixth-round draft choice of the New York Jets, but opted to play for the Denver Gold of the USFL from 1983-85.

Mansfield finished 1-9 last season in Shiffer’s first year as head coach. The Mountaineers open spring practice on April, 4 before hosting the Red & Black Spring Football Game on April 30.
