FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES JOHN HENGEHOLD NAMED PSAC EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – QUARTERBACK SETS FRESHMAN RECORD FOR PASSING YARDS AND THROWS FOR FIVE TOUCHDOWNS IN WIN OVER CHEYNEY

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University freshman standout John Hengehold (Lake Mary,FL/Lake Highland Prep) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week for his record setting performance in the Mountaineers 38-17 win over Cheyney.

Hengehold completed 22 of 31 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns in leading Mansfield to its first win of the season. The 352 yards is the most ever in a game by a freshman and the most passing yards in a game since Travis Motley threw for 364 yards against Millersville in 2001. His five touchdown passes are also the most by a freshman and second most in school history.

For the season Hengehold is the second leading passer in the PSAC, completing 101 of 184 attempts (54.9%) for 1,374 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is averaging 229.0 passing yards per game and ranks fourth in the conference in passing efficiency (130.4).

Hengehold becomes the second Mountaineer football player to be selected to PSAC East Player of the Week honors. Senior Keith Slezak was named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season.
