MANSFIELD – On a cold, wet and muddy Karl Van Norman Field on Senior Day, the Mansfield University football team gave a valiant effort before falling to #1 Regionally ranked and #4 Nationally Ranked Bloomsburg by a score of 40-12.

“We’re not into moral victories,” said head coach Jim Shiffer . “But I’m proud of how hard our guys played today, and I’m especially proud of those nine seniors who never gave up during the whole careers.”

Seniors Adam Aston, Angelo DePrimo, Rob Geiger, Ronnie Montgomery, Tim Ruffner, Rob Smiley, Mike Stankiewicz, Keith Slezak and Jason Zeigler all played their final game at Karl Van Norman Field and were honored in pregame ceremonies when they were presented with framed action posters of themselves.

Jamar Brittingham ran for 138 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Jack Lydic passed for 190 yards and two touchdowns to lead undefeated and #4 ranked Bloomsburg to their ninth straight win of the season.

Brittingham, who played just over two quarters, scored the games’ first two touchdowns the first coming on a 4 yard run at the 10:11 mark of the first quarter and a 1 yard plunge with 12:33 to play in the second quarter.

Bloomsburg would increase its lead to 20-0 on a 34 yard touchdown reception by Luke Kuklick from Lydic with 3:33 to play in the first half before Mansfield scored when Rodney Davis took a pass from freshman quarterback John Hengehold and outraced the Bloomsburg defenders for a 75 yard touchdown.

Donny Patrick caught a 10 yard touchdown pass from Lydic to give Bloomsburg a 27-6 halftime lead.

Brittingham would score his third touchdown of the day on Bloomsburg’s first possession of the second half on a 7 yard run and Josh Heck added another score minutes later on a 5 yard run for a 40-6 lead.

Mansfield would score the game’s final touchdown on a 21 yard reception by running back Poohbear McNeal from Hengehold.

Despite the wet and muddy conditions, both quarterbacks posted impressive numbers with Lydic completing 12-of-19 passes for 138 yards and Hengehold hitting 19-of-29 attempts for 223 and two touchdowns.

Rodney Davis had eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown for Mansfield. McNeal, who rushed for 54 yards, caught five passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. Jeff Tanner had three catches for 45 yards.

It marked the third time this season that Davis, also a freshman, has surpassed the 100 yard mark in receiving yards in a game and the fifth game he has caught a TD pass. Davis now has 43 catches for 573 yards and six touchdowns on the season.
