FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  MOUNTIES DROP MATCH AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED LOCK HAVEN

MANSFIELD – At Spaulding Field, the Mountaineers faced third in the nation Lock Haven University.  The Mounties limited the Eagles to 3 goals. Earlier this season Lock Haven defeated Mansfield 10-0. The PSAC East rematch was an improvement for Mansfield, who played with a determined defense. Mansfield’s 3-0 loss against Lock Haven gives the Mounties a 3-10 overall record and a 3-8 record in the conference.

The Mounties only let Lock Haven score one goal in the first period, despite the twenty shots Lock Haven fired at the Mansfield goal. Senior goalie Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) had ten saves in the first period and 26 on the day. Sophomore Holly Fredrickson (Woodbine, MD/ South Carolina ) had two defensive safes this game to help Long out. Mansfield’s defense faced a total of 51 shots, and only allowed three goals. Freshman Alissa Gallagher ( Clarks Summit/Abington Heights), the leading scorer for the Mounties, had the only two shots for Mansfield.

The next game for the Mounties is Saturday, October 11th, when they travel to Shippensburg for a noon game time. Shippensburg University is ranked first in the nation with an overall record of 11-1.
