Thiers (Royersford/St.Pius X) scored the game winning goal in
overtime against C.W.
Post
University
in the 2003 season finale this afternoon at
Spaulding field.
The Mountaineers were first to score as Kristen Campbell (
Bloomsburg/Central
Columbia
)
scored within the first minute of
play. Mansfield
would hold on to the lead well into the second
half as they led 1-0.
Late in the second half with 14 minutes to play in regulation, C.W. Post’s
Trisha Moran tied the game off an assist from Ashley Gilroy to send the game in
overtime.
In overtime Mansfield’s Thiers, scored the game winner with 3:57 to play in
overtime off a break away goal.
Mansfield’s senior goalie Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) recorded five
saves in goal and set a new single season saves record with 347 saves in goal this
season.
With the win the Mountaineers finish the 2003 season with a record of 6-14
overall and 5-12 in the PSAC standings.
