FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD DEFEATS MILLERSVILLE 4-1 AS HEATHER LONG SETS NEW NCAA II SINGLE SEASON SAVES RECORD

Mansfield- Mansfield University defeated Millersville University 4-1 this afternoon behind a three goal performance by Kristen Campbell (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia). Campbell scored the first of her three goals 10 minutes into the game off a penalty stroke as Mansfield took an early 1-0 lead.

During the first half Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) set a new NCAA Division II single season saves record with 329. She now has 342 after recording 14 saves in goal.

Campbell added another goal to start off the second half with 26:27 remaining in regulation. Minutes later, Millersville’s Tina Riegel responded with a goal to cut Mansfield’s lead to just one goal.

Later in the second half Campbell scored her third goal of the game giving Mansfield a 3-1 advantage.  With just three minutes to play, Ashley Celaschi (Myerstown/ELCO) added another goal for the Mountaineers as Mansfield went on to win 4-1.

With the win Mansfield improves to 5-14 overall and 5-12 in the PSAC standings. The Mountaineers final home game is noon tomorrow at Spaulding Field as Mansfield plays host to C.W. Post University.
