RELEASE DATE: 11/24/09 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Courtney Grunza and Brittany Kostishion named to NFHCA 1st Team All-American honors – First time in school history Mansfield places two players on 1st team in same season MANSFIELD – Mansfield University seniors Courtney Grunza (Nicholson/Lackawanna Trail) and Brittany Kostishion (Perkasie/Pennridge) have been named to NCAA Division II 1st Team All-American honors released today by the by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). It marked the first time in school history two Mountaineer players have earned 1st Team NCAA Division II All-American honors in the same season. Grunza and Kostishion were among 16 NCAA Division II players selected to All-American 1st Team honors by the NFHCA. They were both named to 1st Team All-PSAC West honors earlier in the month. Grunza, widely considered one of the best defensive backs in Mountaineer history, recorded a goal and three assists this season despite playing a defensive position. She is a three-time All-PSAC selection. A co-captain of this year’s team, Grunza has played and started in 74 games during her career. She earned 2nd Team NFHCA All-American honors last season and is a three-time MU Presidential and PSAC Scholar-Athlete.
Kostishion, a midfielder, ranked third on the team in scoring recording six goals and seven assist for 19 points on the season. She is a three-time All-PSAC selection and was a 2nd Team NFHCA All-American last year. A co-captain this season, Kostishion recorded 28 points during her career scoring nine goals while assisting on 10 others. ###
