FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Courtney Grunza and Brittany Kostishion repeat’s All-PSAC West selections in field hockey – Kristyn Grunza, Jaimie Purdy and Jessie Wolski named to Second Team honors

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University senior co-captains Courtney Grunza and Brittany Kostishion were named to First Team All-PSAC West honors while teammates Kristyn Grunza, Jaimi Purdy and Jessie Wolski earned Second Team recognition in voting conducted among the PSAC West head coaches and released today.

Grunza, earn her All-PSAC designation at defensive back while Kostishion was named at midfield. They were the only players on this year’s PSAC West team to have earned All-PSAC honors during each of the past three seasons.

Grunza, widely considered one of the best backs in Mountaineer history, had a goal and three assist this season despite playing on defense. Kostishion ranked third on the team in scoring recording 6 goals and seven assist from her midfield position.

Kristyn Grunza is the younger sister of Courtney and led the team in scoring, goals and assists as a freshman this year. A forward, Grunza scored nine goals with eight assist for 26 points ranking among the conference leaders in all three categories including third overall in the PSAC in assists.

Sophomore forwards Purdy and Wolski are repeat selections after earning Second Team All=-PSAC West as freshmen last season. Purdy finished second on the team in scoring with nine goals and six assists for 24 points while Wolski had five goals and seven assist for 17 points.

Mansfield finished the 2009 season with a 6-12 overall record and 0-6 in the PSAC West.
