FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer field hockey team reports to preseason camp on Sunday – Mansfield competing in PSAC West this season

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University field hockey team will begin preparations for the 2008 season with the opening of preseason camp this Sunday.

Head coach Diane Monkiewicz enters her 11^th season at the helm of the program by welcoming 18 student-athletes to camp including 11 returners from last season’s team.

All-PSAC Second Team goalie Brianna DeLuca along with fellow seniors Rebekah Brown, Laura Carden, Shana Markwis and Shantee Proctor highlight the veterans along with All-PSAC junior defenders Courtney Grunza and Brittany Kostishion.

There are seven incoming freshmen.

For the first time in PSAC history, field hockey will be divided into two divisions in 2008 with Mansfield competing in the PSAC West along with IUP, Mercyhurst, Shippensburg and Slippery Rock.

The PSAC East will consist of Bloomsburg, C.W. Post, East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and Millersville.

The top two teams for each division will advance to the PSAC Championship Tournament.

Mansfield will host Houghton in a scrimmage on Aug. 22 before opening the season with a three game road trip to New England starting at Southern Connecticut.
