FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Laura Carden named PSAC West Field Hockey Player of the Week

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University senior Laura Carden (Friendsville/Montrose) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division Field Hockey Player of the Week for her outstanding performance during the week ending 9/7/08.

Carden scored two of Mansfield's three goals, including the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst in the Mountaineers' only game of the week.

After Mansfield trailed at halftime and then had tied the score in the first minute of the second half, Carden scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the second half. She then added another goal eight minutes later to give Mansfield an two-goal lead and ultimately seal the win.

Carden, who had not scored a goal in her first three seasons on the team, now has scored five goals (out of 12 for the team) in four games to help lead the Mountaineers to a 3-1 record to start the season.
