FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Field Hockey Loses 2-1 At Mercyhurst

Jaime Purdy’s goal in the second half that tied the game was not long-lived as Mercyhurst won the game 2-1 in PSAC competition Saturday night.

Mercyhurst got things rolling with a goal by Sara Wowkowych in the 31st minute. Teammate Serena Slattery was awarded an assist for the goal.

The rest of the first half ended without another goal being scored. This is how the game looked the last time Mansfield and Mercyhurst met in competition at Mansfield’s Spaulding Field. Though that game ended with Laura Carden and Jessie Wolski combining together three goals in the second half to win the game.

In the 54th minute of play in the second half, Purdy scored off an assist from teammate Courtney Grunza to tie the game 1-1.

Though with five minutes remaining in the game, Wowkowych struck again but this time of an assist from Rachel Suberski.

Mercyhurst won the battle of shots 11-5 and 6-2 on goal shots. Mansfield did however win the battle of penalty corners 6-5.

Brianna DeLuca recorded four saves while Mercyhurst’s Jennifer Coleman recorded one.

Mansfield will be back in action on October 8 at Slippery Rock for a 4 pm game.
