FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: #10 Mansfield upsets #6 Bentley on goal by Shana Markwis

NEW HAVEN, CT – Senior Shana Markwis (Milford/Delaware Valley) scored the games’ only goal in the 22^nd minute and senior goalie Brianna DeLuca (West Grove/Avon Grove) stopped eight shots to earn a shutout to lead #10 Mansfield to a 1-0 win over #6 Bentley Saturday afternoon in New Haven, CT.

Markwis first goal of the season come when the Mountaineers had a corner opportunity with Kelly Klimkowski  (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) firing a shot on goal that was blocked. Markwis took the rebound and put the ball past the goalie for what would prove to be the games only score.

Bentley enjoyed a significant advantage in both shots (12-5) and in penalty corners (14-3) but the Mountaineer defense of Courtney Grunza (Nicolson/Lackawanna Trail), Sami Swingle(Hunlock Creek/Lake-Lehman) and Shantee Proctor (Forty Forty/Wyoming Valley West) along with DeLuca kept Bentley off the scoreboard.

DeLuca was credited with eight saves while Bentley’s goalie Alyssa Sliney had four saves.

Mansfield improves to 2-0 on the season and travels to Division I Bryant College on Monday before returning to Mansfield.
