FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Five Mounties Score in 5-0 Win over Slippery Rock – Brianna DeLuca Records Fourth Shutout of the Season

MANSFIELD – Five different players scored and Brianne DeLuca recorded her fourth shutout of the season as Mansfield blanked Slippery Rock 5-0 in PSAC field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Spaulding Field.

“We started off slow, but played better especially in the second half,” said head coach Diane Monkiewicz.

Ryanne Higgins scored the game’s first goal at the 11:40 mark off an assist from freshman Carlyn Spangler. The Mountaineers added another goal five minutes before halftime when freshman Brittany Kostishion scored her first collegiate goal off a corner with Shana Markwis being credited with the assists.

Mansfield added three goals in the games final 15 minutes with Breanne Tobin scoring her team high ninth goal of the season on a corner with a assist by Keely Jarett.

Jarrett would score a goal of her own a little over three minutes later with Higgins earning the assist. The final goal came with just under five minutes remaining with freshman Carlyn Spangler getting her fourth of the season off Jarrett’s second assist f the day.

Mansfield held a 18-3 advantage in shots with sophomore Brianna DeLuca earning her fourth shutout of the year.

Ashley Winkelstecht had five assists for Slippery Rock.

The Mountaineers, who moved up to 9^th in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II poll, improved to 5-6 overall and  3-4 in PSAC play. Slippery Rock falls to 1-6 and 0-6 in conference play.
