FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Higgins Scores Twice to Lead #10 Mansfield past #6 ranked East Stroudsburg – Mounties Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

MANSFIELD – Ryanne Higgins scored both goals to lead #10 ranked Mansfield to a key 2-1 win over #6 ranked East Stroudsburg in a key PSAC field hockey game Thursday afternoon at Spaulding Field.

Higgins scored the game’s first goal in the 12^th minute sending a hard shoot from just inside the circle past the goal off a corner assist by Keely Jarrett.

East Stroudsburg tied the score six minute later on a goal by Jenni Hyman off an assist from Karleigh Bowen.

The game was halted for more than 40 minutes with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Higgins scored what proved the game winner in the 47^th minute sending a shot in from five yards out with Ang Hamill credited with the assist.

The Mountaineers won the game despite being out shot 18-5 with East Stroudsburg also enjoying a 19-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Brianna Deluca recorded 10 saves in goal for Mansfield while East Stroudsburg Miranda Fountain had two stops.

The win give Mansfield a split in the season series with East Stroudsburg and more importantly keeps the Mountaineers hope alive for a PSAC playoff berth. Mansfield is currently 6-7 in conference play with East Stroudsburg at 6-6 and Kutztown 5-7. All three teams are fighting for the fourth playoff spot behind Bloomsburg, IUP and Shippensburg.

Mansfield travels to Slippery Rock on Saturday and faces Bellermine on Sunday at Seton Hill College in Greensburg.
