FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Higgins Has Hat Trick and Assist in 5-3 Win over Bellarmine – Playoff Bound Mounties Host Mercyhurst Wednesday in Final Game of Regular Season

Greensburg, PA – Ryanne Higgins recorded a hat trick and added an assist to help lead Mansfield to a 5-3 win over Bellarmine College at Seton Hill College in Greensburg Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers trailed 1-0 on a goal by Bellarmine’s Michelle Esterle four minutes into the game before Higgins tied the score on a penalty stroke three minutes later.

Bellarmine retook the lead on a goal by Sarah Roney in the 10th minute before Higgins hit the back left of the net to tie the score. Higgins added her third goal of the first period when she beat the goalie in front of the net to give Mansfield its first lead of the game in the 28th minute.

Bellarmine (10-6) tied the game at 3-3 with five minutes to go in the first half on a goal by Allerie Schneider.

Keely Jarrett scored what would prove to be the winning goal 12 minutes into the second half on an assist from Ang Hamill with Breanne Tobin added an insurance goal on an assist from Higgins with 13 minutes to play.

Brianne DeLuca had eight saves in goal

Mansfield, which clinched the program’s first ever PSAC playoff berth with a 5-3 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday, improves to 10-9 overall and host Mercyhurst Wednesday in their final regular season.

Mansfield will play against #1 ranked Bloomsburg in the PSAC semi-finals on Friday, Nov. 3 at Bloomsburg.
