FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Blanked by East Stroudsburg 2-0

BROOKVILLE, NY – The Nationally ranked Mountaineer Field Hockey squad overpowered CW Post on Sunday afternoon, earning a 5-1 victory. Ryanne Higgins led the way with an incredible offensive performance, scoring a goal and recording three assists on the day. Five Mountaineer players scored goals in the winning effort.

The scoring began early for Mansfield as Shana Markwis put the Mountaineers on the board with a goal in the sixth minute of play. Ryane Higgins was credited with the assist on the play.

A defensive battle ensued for the remainder of the first half with Mansfield keeping a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The second half would feature a more offensive attack that saw four Mountaineer goals and one goal from CW Post.

Post got on the board in the first minute of the second half when Amber Limanni scored an open net unassisted goal to tie the score at 1-1.

Defense again prevailed for the next 15 minutes as the score remained 1-1 into the 50th minute before the offensive surge began. Over the course of the next 20 minutes, Mansfield would add four goals to their score.

Breanne Tobin got the scoring started in the 50th minute on an assist from Ryanne Higgins.

Higgins, already with two assists on the day, would add an unassisted goal of her own in the 60th minute when she put back a rebound into the net.

Higgins wasn't done scoring points yet. She added another assist in the 64th minute for Carlyn Spangler to put the Mounties on top 4-1.

Courtney Grunza assisted Molly Nasser in the 70th minute to close out the game with Mansfield on top 5-1.

Brianna DeLuca recorded six saves in goal for the Mounties.

Mansfield moves to 4-6 overall while CW Post falls to 6-2 on the year.

The Mountaineers are back in action Tuesday, September 26th when they host Slippery Rock. The game is scheduled for 4:00pm at Spaulding Field.
