FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FIELD HOCKEY FALLS 3-0 TO STONEHILL IS SEASON OPENER

MANSFIELD – Stonehill College scored first half goals including two by Kelly Latendresse, to outlast Mansfield University 3-0 in the season opening game for both teams.

Stonehill scored five minutes into the game when Ali Boulis scored off an assist by Latendresse.

After giving up 20 shots in the first half, Mansfield allowed just three shots in the final 35 minutes.

The Mountaineers, who were out shot 23-5 in the game, had a couple of first half opportunities but could not get the ball into the net. Freshman goalie Brianna DeLuca hasd11 first half saves in her first collegiate start before being relieved at the start of the second half by Katie Heil who did not allow a goal.

Stonehill also held a 14-12 advantage in corners.

Mansfield falls to 0-1 and will host Bryant College at 1 p.m. at Spaulding Field on Sunday.
