FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Keely Jarrett Scores Twice to Lead Field Hockey to 3-2 Win Over Slippery Rock

MANSFIELD – Keely Jarrett scored twice in the first half and Shana Markwis added what proved to be the game winner in the second half to lead Mansfield to a 3-2 win over Slippery Rock in PSAC field hockey Wednesday afternoon at Spaulding Field.

Slippery Rock took an early lead, scoring four minutes into the game on a goal off a corner by Janice Feduke.

Mansfield came right back five minutes when Jarrett scored the first of her two goals with a shot from the left side of the net off an assist by Markwis.

Jarrett would score again at the 13:40 mark, this time knocking in a pass from Ryanne Higgins. But Slippery Rock would tie the game with just under two minutes to play in the half when Ashley Hanna scored off an assist from Elise Ford.

Mansfield wasted little time in scoring to start the second half when Markwis took a pass from Higgins off a corner and buried it in the right hand corner of the goal. The Mountaineer defense behind Jess Weider, Ashley Meta, Holly Frederickson, Angela Hamill and Shantee Proctor held Slippery Rock scoreless for the remainder of the game.

It marked the second game in a row and third this season Jarrett has scored twice in a game. Her 11 goals on the season rank third best in school history.

Mansfield held a 17-7 advantage in shots with Katie Heil recording four saves in goal.

The Mountaineers are on a two game winning streak and improved to 5-10 overall and 4-6 in PSAC play. Slippery Rock falls to 1-12 overall and 0-11 in the PSAC.

Mansfield will host IUP for Senior Day this Saturday starting at 11 am at Spaulding Field.
