RELEASE DATE: 9/7/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL TO KUTZTOWN 5-2 IN CONFERENCE OPENER – FRESHMAN ASHLY WEDNER SCORES FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University field hockey team scored first, but Kutztown scored most in recording a 5-2 win over the Mountaineers in MU’s PSAC opener at Spaulding Field Wednesday afternoon. The Mountaineers got on the board in a hurry when Shana Markwis took a pass from Ryanne Higgins 1:16 into the game and tucked the ball into the right side of the net. Kutztown came back with three unanswered goals on scores by Lindsey Bozart, Kelley Healey and Mandi Turner to take a 3-1 halftime advantage and increased its lead to 4-2 on a second half goal by Laura Kline. Mansfield freshman Ashly Weidner cut the lead to cut the lead to 4-2 with 10 minutes left scoring on a rebound off a shot by Ryanne Higgins. But Kutztown would end any hopes for a Mansfield rally when Bozarth scored her second goal of the game :45 later. Kutztown held a 34-14 advantage in shots and a 21-11 advantage in corners. Mansfield falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC. Kutztown improves to 3-1. The Mountaineers travel to Millersville this Saturday.
