KEELY JARRETT SCORES TWICE TO LEAD MANSFIELD TO 3-1 WIN OVER MILLERSVILLE

MOUNTAINEERS MOVE INTO FIFTH PLACE TIE IN PSAC

Mansfield’s Keely Jarrett scored two goals as the Mountaineers defeated Millersville 3-1 in a PSAC contest at Spaulding field Tuesday afternoon.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Mountaineers and moved them into a fifth place tie with East Stroudsburg in the PSAC. The Mountaineers, whose last five losses have been against nationally ranked opponents, also got a measure of revenge for an earlier 7-4 loss at Millersville.

Mansfield went on an offensive attack early, pounding out 20 shots in the first half to Millersville’s four.

Shana Markwis started the scoring for Mansfield as she blistered a straight-on goal from near the top of the circle eight minutes into the game.

Sophomores Keely Jarrett and Ryanne Higgins hooked up to score both the Mountaineers’ next two goals. Jarrett took a pass from Higgins and scored from the left hand side to give Mansfield a 2-0 lead at the 12:21 mark. The duo struck again two minutes later with Jarrett deflecting a ball from Higgins into the right hand side of the net to give Mansfield the 3-0 lead.

Millersville would find the net for the only time in the game with 16 minutes left in the game as Jaclyn Kulesza scored on an assist from Laura Chiodo.

Mansfield held a 25-8 shot advantage. Brianna DeLuca played the first half, allowing no goals and making three saves. Katie Heil recorded one save in the second half.

The Mountaineers improve to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in PSAC. Millersville falls to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the PSAC. Mansfield will travel to East Stroudsburg Saturday.
