FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL TO TOP RANKED SHIPPENSBURG 7-3 IN PSAC FIELD HOCKEY

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University field hockey team battled #1 ranked Shippensburg for the first 25 minutes of the game before falling 7-3 in PSAC field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Spaulding Field.

Shippensburg took a 2-0 lead after the first 17 minutes of the game on goals by Ashley Watt and Lindsey Knupp before the Mountaineers cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by senior Ashley Celaschi off a corner assist by Kristen Campbell at the 25:36 mark.

However Shippensburg would answer with three goals, including two more by Knupp, over the next 10 minutes to take a 5-1 lead into intermission.

Shippensburg would extend its lead to 6-2 early in the second half on a goal by Natalie Grazen. But the Mountaineers would come right back to cut the lead to 6-3 when Angela Hamill scored off an assist by Ryanne Higgins at the 50:31 mark and an unassisted goal by Keely Jarrett in the 63^rd minutes.

Shippensburg would score the game’s final goal less than a minute later.

Shippensburg held a commanding 34-7 advantage in shots and 10-7 in penalty corners. Mountaineer goalie Katie Heil had 16 saves while Mansfield also recorded five defensive saves.

Shippensburg improves to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in the PSAC. Mansfield falls to 4-10 and 3-7 in conference play.

The Mountaineers will travel to East Stroudsburg on Thursday.
