RELEASE DATE: 10/18/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: KEELY JARRETT’S TWO GOALS LEADS MANSFIELD PAST MERCYHURST MANSFIELD – Freshman Keely Jarrett scored twice and the Mountaineer defense turned back a frenzied attack over the final minutes of the game to lift Mansfield to a 2-1 win over Mercyhurst in a non-conference field hockey contest at Spaulding Field Sunday afternoon. Mansfield scored the game’s first goal at the 18th minute when Keely Jarrett took a pass from Ryanne Higgins on the left side to beat the goalie. Shortly after the start of the second half Mercyhurst’s Misty Dennis retailed with a goal, tieing the game 1-1. It wasn’t until late in the second half that Keely Jarrett made her second goal of the game off of a penalty corner. Mercyhurst made a desperate attempt to tie contest but the Mountaineer defense led by goalie Katie Heil (with twelve saves) along with Jess Weider (with four defensive saves), and Marci Lippert among others, stopped seven penalty corners over the last four minutes of the game to preserve the victory.
